Welcome to the Dog Days of Summer. A time when other people may misinterpret your words or take them out of context.
As a marketer:
Take the time to consider how others will interpret your words and actions.
What seems innocent to you, might not be to them.
Over the weekend, New York City surged into a summer heat wave.
So far, our air conditioning keeps cranking!
While the city is slowly coming out of COVID quarantine, most of our summer escapes remain off limits. Because, like many Manhattanites, we don’t own a car and we’re not yet comfortable going anywhere we can’t reach on foot.
Unfortunately, the weekend started with the sad news that Congressman John Lewis died of stage IV pancreatic cancer.
Thank you Neil deGrasse Tyson, the popular astrophysicist and head of the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.
He pointed out that the setting sun aligned with Manhattan’s street grid in May and July. So the sun sits perfectly between the buildings of every cross street.
Marketers can learn a trick or two from Carl Reiner who passed away at the age of 98 last week. He may not be a household name now but his body of work included doing comedy on early television, writing and directing movies.
I hope you enjoyed your July 4th holiday weekend (at least in the US!)

They maintained social distancing and used instruments found at home while in quarantine.
Let’s celebrate freedom!
While this past weekend and coming week mark various independence-related events:
Gay Pride Day (June 28, 2020) commemorates the 1969 Stonewall Riots. In the early hours of Saturday, June 28, 1969, police raided The Stonewall Inn.
Canada Day (July 1, 2020) marks Canada’s official birth. The Constitution Act of 1867 combined Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Ontario and Quebec into one country.
US Independence Day (July 4, 2020) celebrates the approval by the Continental Congress of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.
If you’re a father, accept my belated Father’s Day wishes.
May this special relationship bring you a lifetime of love and satisfaction.
My heart remains heavy with sorrow.
I continue to proudly bear witness to the enduring bravery of the masses of people whose names I don’t know as they persist in showing up day and night across my country to demand change.
I hope that you and yours remain safe and healthy.
George Floyd’s last 8 minutes and 43 seconds of life must have been painful and scary. As an asthma sufferer, I can attest to how fearful the lack of breath can be.
